Instructor: Philip Frey
Artist, Philip Frey, born in Maine in 1967, paints a sophisticated portrayal of Maine coastal life. His bold, rich colors and sense of movement awaken us to the present and inspire a sense of place. Widely exhibited and praised, his avidly collected landscapes stand out for their luminosity, adept use of color and clear commitment to painting his native state.
Art Historian and critic Carl Little writes in Art of Monhegan Island, “Frey has a dynamic style and high-pitched palette which derive from a keen admiration for the fauvists, those revolutionary French painters...” and in Paintings of Maine, “[He] renders a bold curve in the road wi th a palette to match: brash and bright. Frey is dedicated to painting Maine, be it mighty Mount Katahdin or Cleonice, a restaurant in his hometown.”
Philip is represented by The Firehouse Gallery and Courthouse Gallery Fine Art. His work is collected here and abroad.
