9am – 12pm
$75 Non-Members
$65 Members or UMaine students with ID
Location: UMMA Classroom, 40 Harlow Street, Bangor
Over two consecutive Saturdays this workshop will explore the fundamental skills of making books by hand. We will learn some basic & timeless book bindings, from pamphlets to the accordion-style. These bindings will springboard ideas for book projects the second weekend of the workshop. We will handle books from my collection that demonstrate the binding models & book ideas under discussion. This is a hands-on workshop. There are a few basic skills of folding & sewing paper that are necessary, with simple tools. All the materials for the first class will be provided by the instructor.
Class space is limited to 15.
To register for this workshop please call 561.3350 or stop by the museum.
Instructor: Walter Tisdale
Walter Tisdale lives and works in Bangor. He has made books in collaboration with writers & artists, since 1979. He believes strongly that the books he prints & publish design themselves, given the collaborative nature of the work. Serendipity also has a playful role in his bookmaking.
